About our ironwork - frequently asked questions
Who makes your hardware?
WT's exclusive line of hand forged dungeonware is made by ironworker Ken Lett, who has over 15 years experience in blacksmithing and metalwork. Ken's elegant style makes a dramatic statement in any dungeon or bedroom.
Iron or Steel?
Technically our pieces are not iron, they are all made of quality high carbon tool steel. This steel, when properly hardened and tempered, is incredibly strong and resiliant, good for decades of hard use.
Will they rust?
Our hardware sports a baked oil finish, giving it a rich wrought iron look, but the steel is not stainless (our steel is far stronger than stainless steels). If the black finish wears off, it can develop rust. We find that the finish will only wear off where ropes and hands rub, and those places are kept polished and rust-free by that same action. If the piece gets infrequent use, simply rub a little oil on the metal now and then - this will maintain the finish and keep the iron looking deep black.
